OUR HISTORY
The daily lives of autistic people and those who help them are very difficult. The awareness and understanding of this syndrome are the best way to help those affected and their families. With this in mind in 2019 we decide to create the 3AL Autism Awareness Association Luxembourg for the promotion in the Gran-Duchy of Luxembourg of the sensibilization of the difficulties of people with autism and the troubles that affect their development and their families. 3AL is an association of parent with the goal of promoting early Intervention, tailored and advanced treatments, inclusion in schools and communities.
HELP, ACTIVITES, THERAPIES
Our association offers : assistance to families in the diagnosis and management of various therapies, individual care and follow-up in ABA Applied behaviour analysis for people with autism. Parent training, inclusive sports activities, inclusive play activities. Family days: events for families (excursions, parties, sports tours...)
There is no medical treatment for Autism, but most individuals with autism respond to highly structured educational programs and early intervention. There is no universal treatment, but each individual needs a tailored treatment that suits their peculiar necessities. Some of the most common interventions are :
Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication Handicapped Children Method (TEACCH):TEACCH is based on structured teaching. It builds on skills that children with autism already possess. The goal of TEACCH is to help children with autism function as independently as possible.
Speech therapy help improve communication. The therapists use alternate methods like gestures, picture boards, etc. to help the child learn how to express their thoughts and ideas to others. It is important to have speech therapy as part of an interdisciplinary intervention program because children with autism have more trouble in communication.
Helps the child deal with sensory information such as images, sounds and smells. Sensory integration therapy could help a child who is bothered by certain sounds or does not like to be touched. When children gain better control of their senses, they are more in control of their movements, sounds, and emotions. This reduces awkwardness and improves social skills.
APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA)
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works in real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning.
ABA therapy programs can help :
Increase language and communication skills
Improve attention, focus, social skills, memory, and academics
Decrease problem behaviors
There tends to be a lot of confusion between terms Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). Often when people talk about ABA programs for children with autism, they are actually referring to DTT. DTT is one of several types of teaching strategies that fall under the umbrella of ABA. So let’s differenciate the two.
ABA applies this principle as an intervention to produce positive changes in behavior. Beyond the field of autism, it’s widely used to help individuals develop positive behaviors – such as good study habits.
DTT
DTT is a structured ABA technique that breaks down skills into small, “discrete” components. Systematically, the trainer teaches these skills one by one. Along the way, trainers use tangible reinforcements for desired behavior. For a child, this might include a candy or a small toy.
In fact, most parents use a form of “ABA” on a daily basis, for example, by giving a child a “time out” for hitting or putting on a favorite movie after a child finishes his homework. Rewards and consequences can make a behavior more or less likely to happen again in the future. This relationship between the antecedent, behavior and consequence is what ABA is all about.
NET
One of the common misconceptions of ABA therapy is that it is done only at a table using methods such as Discrete Trial Training (DTT).
In today’s world however, Natural Environment Teaching is one of the more commonly used methods to teach behavior skills. The reality is that as ABA continues to evolve, so does the implementation of ABA principles and teaching styles used.
Natural Environment Teaching (NET) is a scientifically proven teaching method which allows ABA practitioners to incorporate the learner’s natural environment into the teaching, development, and generalization of skills. Teaching is incorporated into play activities using familiar toys, games, and materials to maximize the learner’s motivation to continue the activity.
We are experts in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). We utilize our expertise to assist children with communication, behavioral, and socialization challenges, with autism and similar disorders.
Our staff are constantly trained on the most current research from the experts themselves. Our team does not focus on one program but rather the focus is on the child and their response to learning.
Each child is unique and requires a different approach. We pride ourselves on learning and meeting the needs of our children.
